If you like making $150 a day for a 12 to 14 hour day then this is the job for you. The dispatchers and the planners don't have a clue should probably all be fired. The equipment is nice and the people overall are nice but she won't make any money.

If you're an Experienced driver don't waste your time. They prefer fresh drivers fresh out of school without their own mind. Too many Davis rules and Regulations. They will Terminate you for anything. The pay is not good. You can make the same money by working a local job and going home every night. This place is a joke. You can have 10 plus year's experience and still get a couple of cents more than a person with 1 year. Showers and dirty at terminal. Insurance packages are not good either. Only best thing they have is the hometime but it's really not good because it messes with your pay a bit…. If you are fresh out of school with little to no experience try them out to get your experience up. But if you're a seasoned driver that thinks for themselves steer clear from this company .

Former employee here. Definitely not for everyone, but it's a job. It's mostly night work to get the refrigerated deliveries in by early morning. The home time is weird now. 6 days on and 2 off. This is supposed to make for reliable home time, but it doesn't work properly. Say I go out on Sunday at 8pm. That means I'm due home on Friday, but it's it could be anytime on Friday from 5am to 11pm. It's all over the place. Sometimes its actually 7 days out, which throws the whole schedule out the window. Pay is about market value. I made right around 70k. Miles vary. If you don't complain and do the job you can get 2500 - 3000 miles pretty regularly. If you cause trouble, you get the trash loads and join the 1500 mile club. I never complained, so I always got good miles. I met quite a few guys over the years who were complainers and get the low miles as a reward for their effort. Driver facing cameras with AI, but that's where we are all headed anyway so I wasn't super upset about that. The only real problem at Davis was the lack of preplanning. Your break could be 10 hours on the nose, or 18 hours. I was ready to roll at 10 hours, only to hear nothing until 18 hours went by and then I had to go drive all night. A little heads up would have allowed me to plan my sleep better. The worst was when you park for 18 hours, but they don't want to pay layover pay so they gave you a little move somewhere nearby to reset the clock. Girl, it's not like layover pay is anything to write home about. It's like a hundred dollars, just pay me. Anyway, you can expect to put in 60ish hours a week there. The trucks are great. APU, power inverter, automatic transitions, the equipment was all in good shape. You will be very comfy in the truck. Health insurance is not good. Dental plan is not good. My dentist calls it "that goofy one" and hates working with them. You can't take passengers or dogs. I think maybe you can take a spouse. The managers are all cool. HR doesn't know what dispatch is doing and vice versa, but that's fairly typical in the industry. Everyone was polite and honest with me.

This is very bad company to work for. They watch everything you do and you do everything they tell you. I worked there for 4 years.

90% of Davis Express' freight is Publix store loads. The remainder is various chicken plants, but mostly Tyson. Davis Express does not want professional drivers. They want a steering wheel holder that cannot think. They will micromanage every aspect of your day. You literally don't start your clock unless the Qualcomm tells you to. Most of the time you'll do your breaks sitting behind a Publix store or at some stinking, dump smelling chicken plant. They promise 48 hrs off every week. What they omit is that you are required to park at one their terminals and your off time starts the second you log off duty. Example, you log off at Noon. You'll get the rest of that day, all of the next and then go back to work Noon the following day. Technically, it's 48 hrs, but it's not quality time off as 24 of that is split across two days. They will also promise 2200 miles a week average. You will be lucky to get 2000. Their insurance is expensive and not very good and they will not cover your spouse. They also do not allow pets or riders. Bottom line, if you like being treated like a 2 year old and having your entire day planned for you and you like driving at night and like hanging out at either their terminals, Publix stores or a chicken plan, you might like it. If you're looking for a company that lets you be a professional driver, look elsewhere because you will hate drivzing for Davis Express. They are easily the worst company I've ever driven for.
