I was terminated by Mercer. I don't know why either. I was contractor of the month there 8 time and contractor of the year once. I made lots of money there and I thought I was appreciated. I knew all of the people in the office by name and I felt like it was the place I would retire. I have almost 4 million miles experience and accident free and load claim free. One day I grabbed a load of atv's from El paso Texas and took it to effingham Illinois. I got a call from Mercer asking if I could repower a load in Memphis. I said yes and drove down there. When I got there, the trailer had weeds 5 feet tall around the trailer. It had been there a long time. It had bald tires and inoperative lights and major air leaks. I called safely and took pictures, per Mercer protocol and safely told me not to take the load. Several minutes later a manager called me and told me to ignore the safety department. I refused because the trailer was in unsafe condition. I was bullied by 2 managers from Mercer and after back and forth conversations for 3 hours was given a choice. Either you take the load, or your terminated. I protected the public and my career and was terminated 5 minutes later. I still have not a clue what took place, but it was dirty from the start. My buddy who had hired on with me and we did orientation together. They terminated him the same day with a similar trailer, parked in a field in midland Texas. He has 3 million miles experience and a perfect record. Mercer has a lot of dirty secrets. They tried to block ???? me getting hired at another carrier without explanation. I guess that's the thanks I get for moving hundreds of millions in freight for them???

I've been contracted here for 3 months now and haven't regretted it a bit!! Update......... I have since self terminated my contract with this company. after a short 8 months, it became apparent that the so called brokers that they rely on to keep the contractors leased to them moving, could care less about the owner/operators. some of this is the economy, some is the corporate greed that was easily recognizable as I was separating myself from them. I would encourage all owners to heavily weigh the options before choosing this company or any other like this company.
