They have pretty fair pay an they will run you if u are up to it. Home time is pretty great. But they run a good Ole boy system. Safety uses a saying that is totally disrespectful to veterans who they say they support. They tell u safety has your 6. In the military that means I have ur back an up to I will even die to help you. At tyson they do not have your back. They had a mandatory safety meeting for all drivers. They showed videos of cars an other trucks doing dangerous things to their trucks like cutting them off break checking them stopping on ramps an not letting them pass. A driver asked when the camera in the truck records these things does tyson report these drivers to the police or their company the driver was told no we dont. So that does not sound like they have you back at all. So using that phrase is disrespectful to people who live by that saying. They do tons of dei hires an give jobs to people that shouldn't be in those positions. The safety department has so many people that they mess with the drivers about everything an even when u prove them wrong they are always threatening you with your job. Once u have 5 or 6 years in here an have top pay an benefits they intentionally try to get rid of u. They hire lots of non americans. They team up with companies that put bad things in their food. They have been sued many times by many local an government agencies.

First I want to correct something said by another reviewer. TysonFoods pays layover pay on 12 hour increments, ie.. breakdown, waiting to get a load, multiple stops, less than 200 miles, etc…. So if you have to sit for 24 hours, the pay is $200.00. I know that is better than most other companies. So, the other reviewer is partially correct. I get miles, and I get home when I need or want to be home. I will say that Esmart leaves a lot to be desired, in fact it seems not nearly as good as upper management claims. The pay is very good, and the equipment is very good. But, to expect a new truck when you first get hired is unrealistic.

The good … New equipment, Driver Culture-you will make some good friends. Some of the older drivers keep the culture alive. Good miles when they are there . The bad … Management is terrible, Every department is micromanaging you. You are told Tysons is not a trucking company during orientation , they are a food delivery company , that's code for ; you will be spending most of your clock at freezer warehouses, Tyson only pays detention after 12 hours … 100.00. A lot of customer loads .The fleet managers are young and inexperienced. Really difficult to get good miles in some terminals. The company is way over managed. Management is clueless ( none of them came from driving) but the good news is, you won't ever see them. Not an ideal company for experienced drivers anymore . If you live in the south you might get lucky ???? This company was 5 stars five years ago it has slowly just went to crap. When you have 15-30 drivers every week in orientation. The problem is not getting them in the door , the problem is keeping them… Management is clueless

Started as a student and been with Tyson for 9 months . If you can run they will run you till your clock runs out . Trucks are always taken care of . And always a day early for my home time . Stay out 24 days and home for 4 days plus the day I get home . Dispatcher is great and always finds me loads that are ready to go . So I'm not waiting on a load to be ready . Rarely, like on sundays when most Tyson plants are closed will I have to wait for a load . Maybe happened twice since I been here 9 months. Rarely do I have a week under 3k miles , and that is usually due to weather such as high winds, snow , etc .. not due to dispatcher .

This is an overall good place to work. While no place, driving job or not, is perfect. I am satisfied with this job. The support I have received from my fleet manager, dispatchers (day, night, weekend), HR, driver support, etc…. is great. I do admit, all of the buzzers, Esmart, etc…. does take some getting use to.

Equipment is excellent. Pay is decent. Definitely some upsides to working here. Some of the plants are filthy nasty. The biggest downside I've found to date is the attitudes of the dispatch personnel; namely Pottsville. The act more as judge and executioner than a support team. There are constant threats towards the drivers of termination, suspension, lose safety bonus, etc. You never seem appreciated and no matter how well you do,; as soon as there is one mistake even minor the go on the attack. The dispatch team is stone faced and come off more as a threat instead of support. I've definitely found real support from the Springdale personnel. I enjoy the work, the places I go, but those terminal personnel in Pottsville are very sour and threatening. There are better private fleets than this one. I think they put on a facade about being safety conscious and driver appreciation, but their actions show it not to be true.

I worked for Tyson foods for almost 4 years they do not care about there drivers at all they leave you sit all day getting a trailer reloaded 3 times for weight issues with no pay then expect you to run all night with no rest, Dispatch is a joke being on hold for an hour to an. Hour and a half night dispatch never answers the damn phone, the shop has absolutely no mechanics, they don't repair anything, They will steal from you as far as your earned wages your terminal mgrs is always supposedly in a meeting, I'm sure there probably braiding each others hair, because they sure don't do anything else, Safety is the biggest joke of all you come to them with safety concerns and you are just ignored, they have no problem sitting you at a customer delivery for 8-10 hrs with absolutely zero compensation, and you can always see an orientation class with 10-30 new drivers when your wannabe Dispatchers tell you they have No freight So if you don't wanna work and Have your due wages stolen from you Please stay clear

The home time sucks, shop sucks rude and never get stuff done. Dispatcher never covered my hotel bill I had to pay out of pocket, 0 layover that's a scam. Loads take hours to get ready and you'll be worn out all the time waiting. Plants stink and they have scum bags working there with a million rules and territorial scum bag yard junkies that think they own Tyson making 18 a hour. Well id say the only positive was they got me some experience that's it. I never expected much out of them. They ain't your family and don't care about you. That's at home.
