How We Rank Trucking Companies
Every carrier on Oculus Reviews is scored using the same transparent method, so a high ranking means the same thing in every state:
- Where the ratings come from. Reviews posted publicly about each carrier across the web, plus reviews written directly on Oculus Reviews. The public ones aren't all from drivers — we say so rather than dress them up.
- Weighted by review count. A carrier's average is pulled toward the overall average until it has enough reviews to stand on its own, so one five-star rating can't put a company above a carrier with hundreds.
- Matched to FMCSA records. Every carrier is tied to its MC and DOT number, so you're reading about the operating authority you'd actually be driving under.
- Nothing is for sale. Position is computed from ratings. There is no placement to buy and no way to pay us to move up.
What Makes a Good Trucking Company to Drive For
- Pay that matches the promise. The rate quoted in orientation should be the rate on your settlement.
- Reliable home time. Consistent, honored home-time commitments rank higher than vague promises.
- Responsive dispatch. Dispatchers who keep you loaded and treat you like a professional.
- Safety culture. Well-maintained equipment and a company that backs drivers on safety decisions.
- Modern, reliable equipment. Trucks and trailers that hold up on the road.

Rankings come from the reviews we hold for each carrier — reviews posted publicly about them across the web, plus reviews written directly on Oculus Reviews. A carrier's score is weighted by how many reviews it has, so a company with a handful of ratings can't outrank one with hundreds. No company can pay for a higher ranking.
Are these rankings paid placements?
No. Oculus Reviews does not sell rankings. Position is earned through ratings alone.
How often are the rankings updated?
Rankings update as new reviews come in, and the state lists are refreshed for 2026.
Why isn't a company I know listed in my state?
A carrier needs at least one review to appear, and enough reviews to place near the top. Carriers with little or no review history rank below those drivers have actually weighed in on.
Are these reviews written by CDL drivers?
Not all of them. Most are public reviews of the carrier gathered from across the web, and those can come from anyone. Reviews written on Oculus Reviews by a driver on that carrier's profile are labelled as such on the profile page. We're building the driver-written side, and it's still small.
